Cybersecurity Tips this Easter

Don’t Trust the Easter Bunny – He Might Be a Cybercrook
Easter: a time for chocolate eggs, family gatherings, and... cybercrime? That’s right – while you’re enjoying your hot cross buns and plotting the ultimate Easter egg hunt, cybercrooks are plotting something else entirely: how to steal your identity and your money. Bah humbug! (Wait, wrong holiday – but you get the point.)
This time of year, cybercriminals are just as active as the Easter Bunny – only they’re not delivering joy. Instead, they’re sending fake e-cards, phishing texts, dodgy discounts, and “too-good-to-be-true” giveaways.
Here's what you might see hopping into your inbox:
- Easter-themed spam promising free chocolates (lies!)
- Fake order confirmations or shipping notifications
- Scams disguised as charitable donations or last-minute travel deals
- Social media promotions offering free baskets in exchange for your soul (or just your data)
So what can you do to avoid falling for the Bunny’s bait?
- Trust issues? Good. Double-check every Easter-themed message before clicking. If it looks too generous to be true—it probably is.
-
Feeling charitable? Great. Just donate to legit, known organisations. Google is your best friend here.
-
Unsolicited e-cards? No thanks. That surprise greeting could be malware in disguise.
-
Shop smart. Only use secure websites you know and love. And for extra protection, get yourself a VPN and a solid security suite.
-
Think before you post. Don’t announce to the world (and hackers) that you’re sunning it up in Marbella while your house is empty.
Bonus Bunny Tips:
Teach the little ones in your life about online scams—especially if they’re gaming or downloading apps during the school break. Stranger danger applies online, too!
